Shamian Island

Yesterday was a free day so after breakfast we just kind of hung out and played in the hotel room. Samara seemed a little off (the first time we heard a real cry out of her) and we figured out it was a poop issue. After some effort we managed to produce some results in that area - I'll spare you the details. :)

After lunch a bunch of us decided to head out to Shamian Island. It's about a 10 - 15 minute walk from our hotel and there's great shopping there. It was my first experience with bartering in China and it's not so bad. It's good practice for Beijing where I hear the venders are a lot more pushy. I managed to purchase a beautiful dress and matching shoes for Samara to wear for her baptism. I also got a traditional chinese outfit for Victoria and Austin to wear for the baptism. I'll try to post pictures of them a little later.

It's 5:15 am (Sunday morning) here and Samara is still sleeping. She's usually not very interested in her bottle at nighttime before bed so I always think she's going to wake up hungry but that doesn't happen. Actually last night she did wake up one time, needed a little snuggle and went right back to sleep again. Today we're off to the Guangzhou Zoo. I bought a little sun hat for her yesterday so that her head won't get burned. The sun can get quite warm here and it's always been above 20 degrees since we've been here. It's beautiful and it's going to be hard to go back to the cold weather in Beijing next week (and the cold weather in Canada). Anyway, here are some pictures from Shamian Island.

You are already way into Sunday and we are not even there yet. Samara is a cutie and how wonderful she is adjusting to you and you to her. Hope you enjoy the sights and sounds and where she grew up. Margaret E.
